Extract Vocals and Audio from Music with LALAL.AI’s Cassiopeia AI

LALAL.AI is an online service for splitting tracks of any audio format into vocal and instrumental. Thanks to the superior artificial intelligence of Cassiopeia AI, you can let your creativity and imagination run wild: Karaoke, remixes, movie soundtracks – you can cut vocals and background tracks with a mouse click, without any effort or knowledge of sound engineering. What exactly has changed?

Basically, Rocknet, which can still be used on LALAL.AI, only takes into account the amplitude component and ignores the phase component. This can result in a dry, plastic sound on some tracks.

The more recent neural network Cassiopeia takes into account the phase component of the input signal and generates a phase for the output signal. With this process, split tracks contain fewer audio artifacts.

Therefore, the new algorithm performs number analysis to obtain the best separation results.

To prove that its service is more efficient, LALAL.AI compared it to Spleeter, OpenUnmix, Extended Unmix and Rocknet’s own neural network. In fact, Cassiopeia has outperformed everyone else in most categories in various random genres such as jazz, soft rock, pop, etc.

But it is interesting to note that Rocknet is still more successful on the voice channel. Cassiopeia has a bit more instrumental penetration in the song.

The Cassiopeia neural network allows for a clearer separation of sounds. The vocal track had almost no discernible penetration of the instrumental track, which is exactly what you would expect from an instrument like LALAL.AI.

Nevertheless, Rocknet’s results were quite good and could be used to separate the vocal track from the instrument track.

You can also set the level of aggressiveness that the algorithm uses to split tracks. The normal setting is suitable for most circuits, but you can experiment with the soft and aggressive settings to see what works best for you.

To split a track or video into an instrumental and a vocal part, do the following

  1. Open and check the Use a new algorithm box.
  2. Choose a progressive level.

Mild is the minimum level of treatment. You can hear the flaws of the original track and also the penetration of the split tracks.

Normal is the default processing level where moderate filtering is applied. Most bugs have been fixed, but some tracks may contain artificial elements and height blur.

Aggressive – maximum degree of machining. The filtering algorithms respond very sensitively to possible errors. This may result in the natural mixing properties of some traces being taken as errors and removed. This level of processing can result in even more noticeable artifacts.

  1. Download a song or video from your computer.
  2. Wait a few minutes for the track to be processed.
  3. Play or load split logs.
  4. Have fun!
